ViaTech Spotlight is a new blog series that aims to shine a light on ViaTech’s dynamic culture – from the talented individuals who comprise our team to the causes that we’re passionate about. Once a month, we’ll feature someone (or something) new on our blog and social media accounts. Follow along for a chance to get to know us!
When you walk through the doors of ViaTech headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Tina Seabourne is the first person you see. Perched behind her desk in the foyer, she offers a smile and a polite greeting to all who enter.
Known as the company caretaker, Tina leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets. Not only is she an exceptional executive assistant, but she has an aura about her that makes people feel warm and welcome.
What’s more, Tina carries secrets, stories and funny anecdotes from her seven years with the company. She’s seen the business grow both literally and figuratively from her station – where you can always go for candy and good conversation. Here are her thoughts on working for ViaTech.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born in Sherman, Texas. My mother was raised there, and my father (born in Brooklyn New York) was in the military and stationed in Texas. As a child, we lived many places, including England, California, Delaware and upstate New York. I am the oldest of five children, with two brothers and two sisters. I have been married to my husband Perry for 21 years. Together, we live in Rowlett, Texas, and have one daughter, two grandchildren, and of course, a precious Shih Tzu – Scooter.
I started working at Etheridge Printing Company as an office manager in August of 1999, providing support to the owner and president as well as our sales representatives. I was there for fourteen years until the ViaTech acquisition in May of 2013.
What is your role at ViaTech?
My official title is Executive Administrative Assistant/Payroll Manager. My responsibilities include processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis, greeting guests, booking travel and shopping for office supplies, including everything from coffee to paper goods. I also work with the client services team to order any products they may need for customers.
How has ViaTech’s business and culture evolved since you started?
I have seen ViaTech evolve into a more team-orientated company that allows colleagues to feed off each other’s ideas and goals. I am also very proud of the ViaTech office. Everyone who visits comments on how “cool” the open environment is.
What’s the best part about your job?
I think the best part of my job is that every day looks different than the one before. Being up front and doing payroll, I’ve gotten to know just about everyone in the company. We’re like a big family here, and I love it!
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at ViaTech?
ViaTech helped me grow professionally by training me in departments such as payroll and accounting and teaching me that working with a team is so much more productive.
What makes you effective in your role as office gatekeeper & guardian?
I believe experience is one reason I am effective. But more than that, I feel an obligation to protect the company from unwanted solicitors and make clients and guests feel welcome.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of ViaTech?
I love growing flowers in the spring and summer, reading, spending time with my family, taking Scooter on long walks and listening to True Crime podcasts.
