Ensuring a business's financial health is difficult in the easiest of times. Throw a global pandemic into the mix, and it becomes a monumental challenge. ViaTech has been lucky to navigate these unprecedented times with Matt Williams at the helm of its accounting department.

As Controller, Matt is responsible for overseeing ViaTech's day-to-day financial operations.
Here are Matt’s thoughts on working for ViaTech.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Texas and spent the majority of my life in the DFW metroplex. After graduating from Texas A&M University with an accounting degree, I started my career with PwC, where I worked as an auditor for a host of different clients. While I was at PwC, I considered making a move out of state. But as things go, I met a girl, and the rest is history. My wife and I have been married for over two years. Today, we live in Carrollton with our dog, Layla.

What are your responsibilities at ViaTech?

As the Controller of ViaTech, I lead the business’s accounting and finance functions. My team is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial statements and providing financial insight to aid business decisions.

How has ViaTech’s business and culture evolved since you started?

We’ve seen several big changes in the last several years, starting with the introduction of our new core values. Additionally, shifting to remote work during the pandemic brought everyone a lot closer. People were forced to connect in different ways to ensure the company would continue delivering strong results. We’ve always operated a number of different facilities, but I think this change strengthened the culture across all our locations.

What’s the best part about your job?

I know it sounds cliché, but the people at ViaTech make it the best. I truly enjoy working with everyone in the company from the top down. It’s fun spending time with various teams to figure out how we can achieve the best possible results for the customer and the business.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at ViaTech?

ViaTech has continued to provide me with opportunities to learn new technical accounting skills, as well as indirect skills in strategic decision making in a quickly changing environment.

What makes you effective in your role?

I believe my ability to adapt to new initiatives and changing priorities while balancing daily responsibilities has made me effective in my role. Learning to be adaptable has really been the key.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of ViaTech?

I'm an avid golfer, so you'll usually find me on the golf course, along with my wife. Most of the time, I’m in the woods and she’s on the fairway (I’ve only beat her once)! In addition to golf, I like spending time with family, walking Layla, watching sports and binging the latest TV show.
